2nd Participatory Workshop of the Path4Med Research Project

On 9 June 2026, the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA), as project coordinator, together with Wageningen University & Research (WUR) and the Agricultural Association of Fthiotida–Evrytania, organised the 2nd Participatory Workshop in Lamia as part of the European research project Path4Med – Joint Action for Zero Pollution of Water and Soils.
The workshop brought together representatives of the Local Land Improvement Organizations (TOEBs) from the study area, farmers, agronomists, and researchers to exchange knowledge and practical experience on irrigation water management and sustainable agricultural practices. The discussions focused on identifying the region's real needs in order to support the development of practical decision-support tools that will assist farmers and water management authorities in improving irrigation efficiency and agricultural management.
The GIS Research Unit of the Agricultural University of Athens participated through Associate Professor Konstantinos Soulis, Project Coordinator of Path4Med, and researcher Eleni Raidou. Representing Wageningen University & Research were Assistant Professor Spyridon Papyrizos and researcher Javier Renovell.
The workshop also included representatives of the Agricultural Association of Fthiotida–Evrytania, local authorities, water management organisations (TOEBs), agricultural stakeholders, and the Regional Vice Governor for Agricultural Economy, Livestock and Fisheries of the Region of Central Greece, highlighting the importance of stakeholder engagement in developing sustainable solutions for water and soil management.
The event reaffirmed the value of participatory approaches in bridging scientific research with local knowledge, ensuring that the tools and methodologies developed within the Path4Med project effectively address the needs of farmers and water management organisations.
