She holds a degree in Agricultural Science from Higher A.U.A. and studied at the Mathematics Department of the University of Athens. She has a master's degree in Cartography – Water Conditions – Soil Evaluation (1989) and a doctoral dissertation in the field of Soil Evaluation – Land Use Planning (1991) from the Agricultural University of Athens.

Work – Teaching Experience
  • Member of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at the Agricultural University of Athens since 2005. Professor in the field of "Land Evaluation – Geographic Information Systems in Agriculture and Spatial Analysis" in the Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry of the Department of Natural Resources Management and Agricultural Engineering.
  • Lecturer in "Geographic Information Systems" at the Department of Economic and Regional Development of Panteion University (2002 – 2004).
  • Visiting Associate Professor of Geographic Information Systems in the Department of Environmental Engineering at the Polytechnic School of Democritus University of Thrace (2000-2002).
  • Scientific Collaborator at the Technological Educational Institute of Athens (1993-2018).
  • Special Scientist of the Organization for Vocational Education and Training of the Ministry of Education in matters of Geographic Information Systems (1996-2004).
  • He has taught (at universities both domestically and internationally) many undergraduate and graduate courses such as: Geographic Information Systems, Statistics, Spatial Statistics – Geostatistics, Land Evaluation, Land Use Planning, Soil Science, and the Soil-Climate System of the Vine.
  • He has participated as a supervisor or as a member of a three-member advisory committee or as a member of examination committees in 21 doctoral theses and 73 master's studies conducted at the Agricultural University of Athens, the National Technical University of Athens, Panteion University, and Harokopio University.
Publications

51 publications in peer-reviewed international journals (including one that was voted by the International Union of Soil Sciences as one of the five best globally in the field of Pedometrics for the year of its publication), 21 books/book chapters, 105 full papers in international and Greek conference proceedings, and 75 in conference abstracts.

He is a member of several scientific associations, such as the Hellenic Society of Geographic Information Systems – HellasGIs (he served as General Secretary from 2014-2016, Vice President from 2016-2018, and President from 2018-2021), European Water Resources Association (EWRA), European Weed Science Society (EWRS), Hellenic Committee for Combating Desertification, International Union of Soil Sciences, Hellenic Soil Society, Hellenic Society of Informatics and Communications in Agriculture, Food, and Environment (EPEGE-HAICTA).

He is a reviewer for scientific papers in 25 international journals and co-editor for Remote Sensing and Geoinformatics in Agriculture and Environment (MDPI Topic).

He is responsible for the Master's Direction "Geoinformatics and Spatial Analysis" of the Graduate Program of the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development, and has been the scientific supervisor and researcher in 58 research projects.

He participated in international expert committees focused on European Spatial Cohesion and Development (2003-2008) and was responsible for the Geographic Information Systems Laboratory at the Institute of Urban Environment and Human Resources of Panteion University (2002 – 2008).

Since 2008, he has coordinated the activities of the GIS Research Unit (gis.aua.gr) at the Agricultural University of Athens.

He is responsible for organizing the national scientific conferences "Geographic Information Systems in Agriculture and the Environment" (giscongress.aua.gr), which started in 2015 and are held biennially at the AUA.

His current research interests include new technologies (digital agriculture, precision agriculture, GIS, remote sensing, geodatabases) and spatial analysis in the assessment of soils and natural resources, as well as in crop monitoring.
